12,000 Square Feet |
Designed in the Prairie School Architectural Style of Frank Lloyd Wright |
The Karl Junginger Memorial Library is comprised of 12,000 square feet and is divided into two wings. One wing houses the adult stack areas, the informal reading area, offices, and the Kathryn Cady Clark Children's Library. The other wing contains a community meeting room, which seats 100 and is served by a small kitchen. Connecting these wings is a lobby area with space for Historical Society displays, temporary shows and social events. The community meeting room and a smaller conference room are accessible from the lobby when the library is closed.
Wide sheltering eaves and a strong horizontal emphasis recall the Prairie Style architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Extensive use of oak, carpet, and indirect lighting create the warm intimate character sought by the client.
The library was constructed adjacent to the campus of the Waterloo School District to facilitate access and interaction with the district's school system.
