The recently developed Phoenix Park, located in Eau Claire's north downtown area and at the confluence of the Chippewa and Eau Claire rivers, features two newly constructed public buildings. The Trailhead Building and Farmers Market, designed to reflect the original architecture that existed in Eau Claire's north downtown district, were the finishing touches to the redevelopment of this historical site that once was the home of Phoenix Steel and the Northern States Power Company.
The 2,500 square foot Trailhead Building is located on the Chippewa River State Bike Trail. It includes public restrooms, drinking fountains, bike racks, and information on the Eau Claire area.
The Farmers Market structure provides over 10,000 square feet of overhead shelter for market vendors who sell vegetables, flowers, meats and bakery products to Eau Claire area residents. The facility features laminated timber arches, a colored steel standing-seam roof, wood roof deck, and stone bases. Colored concrete was used to provide an economical yet colorful material for the plaza surrounding the Farmers Market. Skylights provide natural light to the vendors and visitors to the facility.
