Eau Claire Maintenance Facility

Central Maintenance Facility

Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Three Building Complex

60,000 Square Feet

With the completion of the new three-building complex, the City of Eau Claire centralized its maintenance department employees and equipment on a single site.

The key challenges faced in the design of the new facility included fitting the complex on a confined sloping site and designing a building that complements the residential area in which it is located.

The main building is a 60,000 square foot facility that houses administrative offices and support areas for city maintenance and transit personnel, shops for equipment, vehicle repair, bus storage, and washing facilities.

Located immediately north of the main building is a vehicle storage facility with employee parking on top of the structure. The rooftop parking concept offers a unique and practical solution to the lack of an onsite area for employee parking. Construction of the vehicle storage building into the hillside allows for grade access to the rooftop parking lot.

The third building, the former city shop facility, has been remodeled for use by the City Parks and Recreation Department.
