100,000 Square Feet |
Somerset High School was designed with flexibility as the key priority. Initially housing 350 students grades nine through 12, the core facility areas are able to accommodate up to 500 students. The 100,000-square-foot facility was designed also to be easily accessible for use by the community. The cafetorium, IMC, gymnasium, weight room, and physical education room are each directly accessible without requiring access through other areas of the building.
The cafetorium is a multi-purpose room that functions as either an auditorium with telescopic theater-type seating for 500 and operable partitions defining a 'performance area,' or as a cafeteria, with benches and tables folding out from the walls. The gymnasium seats up to 2,000 for basketball or volleyball, and the kitchen, lobby, and cafetorium can be used as ancillary areas for large athletic events.
