Stettin Elementary School

Wausau, Wisconsin

50,000 Square Feet

The Wausau School District recognized a need for replacement of the aging Stettin Elementary School. The program called for a new 50,000 square foot facility to be constructed on a new site.

The new site was prominently situated and unusually shaped, encouraging the development of two distinct circulation/arrival sequences. One sequence was designed for parent drop-offs and visitor parking, while the other accommodates bus loading and staff parking.

The school was developed with two wings: one primary (kindergarten through second grade) and the other housing third through fifth grades. The core support areas of the building are designed to accommodate future expansion to a three-section school. The wings meet at the centrally located IMC and provide abundant natural lighting and a view of Rib Mountain.
